Tikkurila’s retail concept transforms the complexity of color into an inspiring, intuitive experience. Technical precision meets Nordic simplicity in a flexible shop-in-shop where every detail supports confident color choices. Designed for beauty, function and longevity, it’s a timeless tool for both customers and retail partners.
Tikkurila wanted a retail concept that reflects their mission: to guide customers in making confident colour choices. The result is a flexible shop-in-shop solution where technical precision meets a simple, inspiring customer journey.
In 2020, we helped Tikkurila create a retail concept that supports their mission: to guide customers in making confident color choices. An in-store destination where Tikkurila’s carefully curated collections are brought to life in a premium environment, designed to reflect both beauty and technical excellence.
Just as important as the aesthetics are the technical features. Smart details and integrated lighting systems ensure that colors can be viewed from every angle, under different conditions, and with complete consistency.
The customer journey is simple and intuitive. First, you choose your color. Then, you move seamlessly to the right product – whether it’s for ceilings, walls, floors, or furniture. Every detail has been designed to support this flow. And to close the loop, a QR code connects the in-store experience back to the digital environment where most journeys begin, giving customers easy access to more knowledge and inspiration without overwhelming them in-store.
Technical features include:
- Adjustable lighting (Kelvin switch) to simulate different times of day.
- Angled sample pockets, showing each color in both shadow and light.
- A design table with built-in lighting and three different background options (white, gray, black).
- 216 permanent sample pockets, produced with the same technology as Tikkurila’s paints, guaranteeing color accuracy.
- Translucent wood samples displayed in natural wood, showing true color effects.
Material choices
To bring a timeless Nordic touch, the palette uses finnish ash balanced by a through-dyed MDF – that adds a modern, durable element. Together, the materials create a simple yet premium backdrop that highlights Tikkurila’s colours while ensuring the concept is long-lasting.
Flexibility was key in the design.
Each market can adapt the assortment to local top sellers, highlight seasonal campaigns or novelties, and use dedicated areas for special collections. Exterior solutions are presented on natural wood samples, showing color performance on both smooth and rough surfaces.
To ensure a smooth rollout across markets, Tikkurila made use of our webshop and planner tool. This enabled local teams to easily configure their concept setup, order the right elements, and secure consistency while reducing complexity.
Sustainability was also at the heart of the project. The Digital Signature screen reduces the need for short-term printed materials like posters, allowing stores to update content instantly using Tikkurila’s brand templates.
The result? A concept that showcases Tikkurila’s premium solutions, guides customers step by step in their painting journey, and gives retail partners a flexible, future-proof tool to succeed.
